Some universities have separate rooms for men and women. Wareesha Nadeem is a frequent visitor to the women\u2019s prayer space at Ryerson University. For her, the space is like a home away from home.<\/em><\/p>\n

I come into this prayer space everyday. Normally, I come to pray but last semester, there was time between my classes when I came here to study.<\/p>\n

This is the most comfortable space for me on campus. If I think about needing to go anywhere, I come here. Like at lunch breaks, I\u2019ve been coming here with my friend.<\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t pray in any other spot on campus. I see other people pray in the library and I\u2019ve thought about it, but I just haven\u2019t felt comfortable. It\u2019s just that people will see and I don\u2019t know what they\u2019re going to think. I guess I\u2019m just conscious about people looking at you and wondering what you\u2019re doing, especially if they don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

If there was no barrier here separating this room from the men\u2019s prayer room, it\u2019d be different. I don\u2019t think I\u2019d be as comfortable. Like the fact that it\u2019s a closed space and it\u2019s only for women, it\u2019s\u2026 I can\u2019t explain it. I don\u2019t think I would come here as often if there wasn\u2019t a barrier here.<\/p>\n
