Some universities have separate rooms for men and women. Wareesha Nadeem is a frequent visitor to the women\u2019s prayer space at Ryerson University. For her, the space is like a home away from home. \u201cThis is the most comfortable space for me on campus,\u201d Nadeem says. \u201cIf I think about needing to go anywhere, I come here.\u201d<\/span>[\/vc_hoverbox][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_hoverbox image=”215″ primary_title=”” hover_title=”Keka DasGupta” shape=”square” hover_background_color=”custom” hover_btn_title=”Read her story” hover_btn_style=”flat” hover_btn_shape=”square” hover_btn_color=”white” hover_add_button=”true” hover_custom_background=”#58217f” hover_btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fgrad.journalism.torontomu.ca%2Fwomensspaces%2Fkeka-dasgupta%2F|||”]Whether men and women worship separately in Hindu communities will vary by temple. At ISKON Toronto, there are three altars where members worship. Men are usually on the left, women on the right, and a mix in the middle. \u201cIt’s not like there are rules where the women can’t go in the temple, but there tends to be a natural area for people,\u201d says member Keka DasGupta. \u201cSome temples don’t have that at all.\u201d<\/span>[\/vc_hoverbox][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column height=”full_height” width=”1\/2″][vc_hoverbox image=”166″ primary_title=”” hover_title=”Jacqueline Lawrence” shape=”square” hover_background_color=”custom” align=”left” hover_btn_title=”Read her story” hover_btn_style=”flat” hover_btn_shape=”square” hover_btn_color=”white” hover_add_button=”true” hover_custom_background=”#58217f” hover_btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fgrad.journalism.torontomu.ca%2Fwomensspaces%2Fjacqueline-lawrence%2F|||” css=”.vc_custom_1529363764343{padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”]Women\u2019s co-working spaces have been popping up in Toronto in recent years. Shecosystem is one of them, which opened at the end of 2016.
\nWhile the space doesn\u2019t exclude men, its focus is on promoting feminism and holistic values.<\/span>
\n\u201cThe feminine values speak to me,\u201d says member Jacqueline Lawrence.\u201cI like the community here. Women become members once they turn 18 and attend weekly meetings, participate in community service, and take part in an annual conference for members.
